The Safe Place Festival believes that every child deserves access to cultural opportunities to expand their minds and to include them in society at large. The goal of the Safe Place initiative is to produce quality performances for children on the autistic spectrum, enriching their lives with an inspiring and positive experience at the theatre despite the fact they be different to other children. As such, Safe Place creates multisensory productions adapted to the sensory, social, and communicative needs of children on the autistic spectrum.
The following talk explores why the world needs relaxed performance, how Safe Place produced a sold-out festival within three months, and gives thoughts on what its future goals might look like both at home in Israel and overseas.
Sharon Gavrielov is an independent Creator, Actress, and Producer, specializing in Theatre for Young Audience. She is a former Secretary of the ASSITEJ Israeli National Centre and a former Artistic Director of the Hanut Theatre (Tel-Aviv), in charge of the overall creative direction of children’s programming. She is currently a member of the Small Size Network and is the Co-Founder & Artistic Director of Safe Place.
