If the first part of that title made you bop your head to the tune of The Beatles song, you would be forgiven – for I fell for the same reference! And the second part of the title reminds me of an old adage, ‘can’t see the forest for the trees’, which can be loosely translated to mean that if you are too close to a certain situation, you may do well to step back and get a little perspective.
For us at this workshop, this meant being given a much-needed overview of the major players in the Norwegian Theatre for Young Audiences landscape. Our tour guide through the ‘forest’ was none other than the former chair of the ASSITEJ Norway board, Eivind Haugland, who presented an overview of the TYA field in Norway and explained how various organisations interact, are interconnected, and/or work together. This entailed Haugland introducing speakers from various key stakeholders, including organisations that provide funding opportunities, theatres that prioritise the making of Theatre for Children and Young People, and individual Artists who specialise in Theatre for Young Audiences.
