Two materials: wool and wood. We use them every day, in all kinds of different forms, and for all kinds of different reasons. So, what made them such special and exciting centrepieces in two Performances for Early Years at Cape Town’s Magnet Theatre?
Despite the simplicity of the materials, when they were combined with the powerful tool of a creative imagination, they created a whole new world of enjoyment, laughter, and inspiration.
The incredible energy and dynamism of the performers, the varied soundscapes being played, and the range of colours on display excited me. From the youngest audience member to the oldest, I felt like everyone in the room was in touch with the powerful pulse of these performances – laughing loudly and joyfully, singing with the performers, and playing with the pieces of wool and wood.
The photographs that follow provide just a small sample of the beautiful atmosphere that was created at Magnet Theatre’s Rocking the Cradle Fringe Festival.
