This entertaining and lively event was hosted on Wednesday, May 24th 2017 to raise funds for both the current and incoming ASSITEJ Next Generation cohorts (more information on which can be found on the ASSITEJ International website here).
Items ranging from South Korean Theatre Masks to Chilean Puppets were donated by international delegates, local companies and other organisations. Overall, the evening was an immense success, bringing in 39,350ZAR (approximately 3000USD) from the auction itself and 6,000ZAR (~450USD) from bar donations.
The funds will be used to support Next Generation leaders in expanding their international experience and networks. The money is granted to contribute towards travel expenses to international placements or as a stipend to those attending the ASSITEJ World Congress. It is a very worthy cause as many of the Next Generation delegates are true pioneers in the Theatre for Young Audiences field and rely on the funding, networking and support of the programme to extend their influence beyond the scope of their own organisation.
