In its second week, the Cradle of Creativity hosted two Focus Days on Dance Theatre for Young People (Wednesday, May 24th and Thursday, May 25th, 2017).
The sessions during these days included a workshop on “Empathy as an artistic tool in dance and theatre”, facilitated by Amelie Mallman (Germany), and a workshop onVrum Dance from Sanja Fruhwald (Croatia). Both sessions introduced practical activities to be used in creating Dance Theatre by and for Youth, but whilst Mallman’s focus was to develop a deeper sense of empathy in her participants, Fruhwald’s work delved into notions ofparticipant play and physical expression. The two workshops complimented one another in many ways, showcasing some of the powerful ways in which Dance can create narratives and evoke emotional responses from audiences. Below is a compilation of short video clips (3 and a half minutes) capturing the range of different exercises used in Mallman’s workshop, followed by some of those in Fruhwald’s:
